Saruni Mara
Mara North Conservancy
On a forested hill facing South in the far North of the conservancy lies Saruni Mara. The lodge has been beautifully designed in un-fenced surroundings with six luxurious cottages. While the lodge is not easy to get to it is precisely this isolated location that is it’s main attraction.
The conservancy is one of the oldest and our first impression was of complete quiet, a welcome change to other areas and the National Reserve which can be very busy with other game drive vehicles. The lodge has a very elevated vantage point and each room has been built to extend out and over the bush for the stunning views.
Surrounded by grass lawns the main guest area has a small curio shop and WiFi as well as a tame Eland. The lounge and dining area has a very warm atmosphere with dark furnishings and traditional rugs and art work. Meals are all communal and there is a spa area as well.
Cottages
The six cottages at Saruni Mara are on either side of the main reception. Each has been decorated with a theme of Writer, Artist, Observer and Photographer and a family villa. All the rooms have old four poster beds that are enveloped by a mosquito net and one of the rooms can be made up as a twin room.
Rooms are very spacious and are dotted with the odd antique fitting as well as expansive decks that look down onto the bush.
The en-suite bathrooms were the best we have ever experienced with showers and complimentary organic toiletries.
